UX #20:Why you need to disrupt the status quo to get your $100K+ dream UX job (mine is Netflix).

Why you need to disrupt the status quo to get your $100K+ dream UX job. Mine is Netflix! Storytime: When I graduated college I was OBSESSED with Netflix, and still am. I thought they were one of the most innovative brands I had ever seen.

As I grew in my UX career, I had a chance to freelance for NBC Universal and work on the transaction flows for their XClass TV, designing for the screens for the first time. This led me to landing more UX roles in media–working for FreeConferenceCall to redesign video conferencing for 10 million global users.

Around that time, I started posting YouTube videos redesigning popular apps like Netflix. I was lucky and a hiring manager at Disney+ noticed my redesign and invited me to interview with Disney!

I got the job, getting the chance to work with Disney+, Hulu, Marvel, and ABC News during my time at the company. This is why I always encourage our UX Woman community to disrupt the status quo with their UX portfolio projects.

Recently I had a chance to work with Zoe who has a film studies background and designed an entertainment platform for AAPI creators to publicize and feature their content! Now that’s the type of disruption I’m talking about!

So how are you going to go beyond redesigning a popular app to fully disrupting it?
